This is a spalted red maple burl vessel from the same tree as the spalted maple burl natural edged bowl in this gallery. I have shown it from several angles to show some of its features, such as the color changes in the wood and the large voids. In the last picture you can see my big fat fingers as I held it to photograph the calabsh style round bottom I like to do on pieces like this. |
